On September 10 & 11, 2019 the New York Association on Independent Living (NYALD) Statewide Conference and Expo will bring together more than 400 people with disabilities, older adults, and supporters of the disability rights community. We gather every other year to educate, energize, and empower the Independent Living movement in New York State.
This year, we commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Olmstead decision. This landmark Supreme Court case enshrines the right of people with disabilities and older adults to live independent, self-directed lives in the most integrated setting possible. Accordingly, the conference theme is Integration. Independence. de-Institutionalization. The conference will celebrate accomplishments to-date and reflect on the work that remains, to ensure all New Yorkers with disabilities can be free and fully independent.
