For the third year in a row, Umbrella has received a grant from a private charity that will allow us to serve low-income homeowners in Rensselaer County with home maintenance and repairs. For seniors and people with disabilities who are struggling to make ends meet on a low fixed income, budgeting for home maintenance can be nearly impossible. Often they are forced to put off small jobs and hope that they won't get worse. Of course deferred maintenance, more often than not, leads to bigger problems. In recognition of the need to address both small and larger repairs, Umbrella has received a $5,000 grant to help qualified members take care of their homes. To qualify for the program, homeowners must live in Rensselaer County and be able to show that they are low-income.
